TO
FLY
written and illustrated
by Lucia Scuderi
English
text adaptation
by Phillis Gershator
and Robin Blum
Kane/Miller 1998
|
| A little
about the book: |
Sandy Miller,
founder of Kane Miller Books, showed me a delightful Italian baby book
he was publishing. I knew a little Italian from the time I lived in
Rome, so his assistant, Robin Blum, and I adapted the text. This happy
tale of try, try, try and fly, fly, fly hardly needs words at all.
To Fly is one of my daughter's favorite picture books for its
message
and simplicity.

| From the reviews: |
“The brief, rhyming
text is enjoyable to recite aloud and will be easy for toddlers to
memorize. The denouement shows all the birds flying into the sky with
an enormous golden sun in the background, in a spread that folds out to
twice the size of the others.... the humor of the birds’ expressions
and the bold and stylized art easily recommend this for the board-book
set.” Kirkus
